It’s not this guide for your grill to experience a light or heavy buildup of rust on its bottom, especially after prolonged use or low-level maintenance. In some cases, the rust can become so extensive that it’s no longer feasible to use the grill at all.

The good news is that there are plenty of methods you can use to clean the rust from your grill’s bottom, including using common household mixtures. However, you’ll want to make sure you are working in a well-ventilated area and that you’re taking all the necessary safety precautions to prevent injury or harm.

November: The Golden Month for Deals and Opportunities – Here’s Why

Vinegar is one of the most effective methods for removing light to moderate rust from metal surfaces. Add salt to the vinegar, and it will increase its natural acidity, allowing it to penetrate and dissolve the rust stains more effectively. Soak the affected area of your grill for several hours, or overnight for better results.

Soda

Coke and other sodas contain phosphoric acid, which can lift rust from metal surfaces. Pour a generous amount of soda on the bottom of your grill, and allow it to soak for 30 minutes before scrubbing off the rust stains with steel wool. Rinse and dry the surface, then apply heat-resistant paint or enamel to protect it from further rusting.

Another way to protect your grill from rust is by applying a rust converter, which will convert the rust into a more stable compound that can be removed with a wire brush or sandpaper. After you’ve applied the rust converter, rinse the affected area and sand it to create a smooth surface.
